Choosing Door Hinges: Match Type and Size to the Door

Door hinges—often listed as “qabza” in Pakistani hardware listings (example)—carry a door through every opening. Choose by fit and service, not finish alone. Check door and frame material, door height and width, total weight, and how often it swings. Hager’s hinge guide and McKinney’s manufacturer guide identify these as key selection factors; final sizing is model-specific.

Match hinge style to the prep

Full-mortise, surface, and half-mortise hinges mount differently, so a replacement must suit the door/frame construction and existing cut-outs. Hager lists these styles. A lightly used interior door may suit a standard hinge; heavy or frequently used openings may call for a heavier weight/bearing category. Use the selected maker’s chart—there is no universal sizing or hinge-count rule.

Before ordering

Measure the current hinge height and width; note door and frame material, the hinge recess, and screw-hole positions. Ask the supplier or installer to confirm hinge type, weight/bearing rating, quantity, and prep against current product data. Before ordering, contact Jinnah’s store team to check an exact model’s compatibility and availability.
